The ranch was originally founded by James Linton Torbertas Torbertsville in 1845, then renamed Rose Ranch in the 1850’s by the renowned Captain James Makee. Ulupalakua became one of the great sugar producing regions, as well as a favorite destination for King Kalakaua and his royal party.  Incorporated in 1956 by Pardee Erdman, Ulupalakua Ranch exists today as a steward of the land, dedicated to preserving and protecting Maui’s open spaces and agriculture, as well as traditional lifestyle and culture. Maui Winery, established in 1974 is also located at the scenic Ulupalakua Ranch, offering a wide selection of locally made wines. A scattering of small rural communities within acres of ranch land, comprises much of the real estate in Ulupalakua. Real Estate offerings in Ulupalakua are rare and highly desirable.
